The Boho Style of Lily Cole

Lily Cole has the look and spirit of a boho girl; her porcelain doll features and beautiful curly hair have been an inspiration for many photographers and fashion designers. She was born in Torbay, England in 1988 and was discovered at the age of 14 while she was walking on the streets of Soho. Her big break came in 2003, when she caught the eye of photographer Steven Meisel, who was captivated by her porcelain skin, and fiery red hair. Lily has appeared in several advertising campaigns (Chanel, Christian Lacroix, Hermes, Top shop, Anna Sui cosmetics, etc.) and fashion editorials. She is also well known in catwalks of the international runway circuit and has walked many top shows ( DKNY, Jean Paul Gaultier, Versace, Alexander Mc Queen, John Galliano, to name a few). Lily is also a passionate environmentalist. She wrote the foreword for Tamsin Blanchard’s latest book, Green Is the New Black, and is actively involved with WaterAid, the Environmental Justice Foundation, and the Western Shoshone. At the age of 17, Lily turned her back on an expensive contract with De Beers, the diamond-mining firm, over human-rights issues.
She has been seen wearing the eco-friendly Anya Hindmarch handbag with the slogan "I'm Not A Plastic Bag"
Isn't she an inspiration? Lily has a great spirit because she stands ups for what she believes. Her boho style is undeniable; she is definitely a fashion icon.

Accessories Can Make the Difference

Accessories are essential in every outfit. They can change a look completely, they can make it more interesting, modern and stylish at the same time. If you want to put your personal touch in an outfit, accessories allow you to do that without too much effort. In terms of jewelry, I personally love earrings and bracelets. I like necklaces and rings too, but I don't usually wear all at the same time. For example, If I wear earrings, I also wear bracelets, but I hold a little on the necklace, but it also depends on the size of the jewelry. I love tribal touches in jewelry, wooden bracelets and necklaces, hand painted earrings, etc. I also think that the right bag is a very nice touch in an outfit. I usually play with the colors when I choose a bag, I think a bag can also have your personal touch. I personally love colorful bags with intricate designs, handmade bags, totes, clutches, etc. and of course, I adore Valentino's bags too (The ones with flowers and petals: see below) :) At the same time I think a basic neutral bag is essential because you can't go wrong with it. We all know that shoes and bags don't necessary have to match anymore and if both are neutral colors it's even better.
Here I'll show you three different looks using the same top. It's a cute silky top that can go with your outfit from day to night. I changed the bottoms and I also added different jewelry and bags to each look. Hope you like them

Natalie Portman's Unique Style

Natalie Portman-Marie Claire

I'm a fan of Natalie Portman! I think she is one of the most talented actresses of her generation. Besides her talent, she has an impeccable taste; every time she appears in any red carpet event, I always wait for her to come up with a unique gown. I love her style and natural charm. Her style is elegant yet flirty and feminine.
Unlike most stars, Natalie Portman doesn't wear leather, always relying on vegan shoes and fabric bags to accessorize her always chic style. Natalie has avoided tabloid fodder of most young actresses because she has spent much of her time studying at Harvard. Because of her down-to-earth lifestyle, Natalie likes wearing jeans, converse sneakers, and t-shirts. She's a free spirited girl who exactly knows what to wear according to the occasion. When she wears a stunning gown for a red carpet event, she prefers to make the gown the main piece without overpower it with a big piece of jewelry. She prefers small earrings and most of the times she doesn't wear necklaces. Definitely a fashion icon!

Her Favorite Fashion Designers: Zac Posen, Helmut Lang, Miu Miu, Prada, Isaac Mizrahi, Calvin Klein, Abercrombie & Fitch.

Loving her dress and the cute flats!

Passion for Draping

I have a passion for draping. Draping for me is like drawing because I can express what I want to design. When you drape you can visualize better the fit and you can also feel the fabric and how it moves. I used to drape a lot at my school's library. The school library has lots of beautiful fabrics that the students could use only for draping and without cutting anything. Each piece of fabric measures approximately three or four yards; your challenge was to figure out how to drape a dress using only pins and that amount of fabric.
Here I'm showing you some of the dresses I draped.

1. I draped the first one at the fashion school library and it was exhibited there for several weeks. The dress is pleated at the top and it has an asymmetrical shape. It also has a "bubble" style hem. I accessorized it just with a black belt that has a beautiful brooch on the side. Fabric: Silk taffeta
2. The idea of the second one, was to make a feminine and sexy mini dress that would look fabulous with a pair of high heels and a cute clutch. The pictures came up a little dark...sorry about that. Fabric: Silk Chiffon
3. The last one is a cocktail dress that I draped and then sewed. It's totally wearable and I made it for myself. The straps are braided as well as the top edges of the bust area. I made the braids by hand. The bust is hand pleated too and it's totally comfortable and looks very flattering on the body. Fabric: Silk shantung.

My Green-Boho-Handmade Wedding

I'm really excited to write about this topic because I think it's one of the most important days in someone's life. The idea of writing about weddings came from a casual meeting with a nice girl; two weeks ago, I was in San Diego, California and I met a lovely girl who owns a bakery, she is Peruvian like me, it was a happy coincidence. Well, the point is that she had some magazines in her bakery. Most of the magazines were bridal magazines. While I was waiting for my cookies and coffee, I started reading them and I thought "I'd love to write about weddings" There are so many new things for brides right now that I got so excited! Well, while I was reading the magazine, I started talking to my new friend about weddings and sharing some stories about them, it was very nice! so after all this excitement I decided to post something about weddings on my blog, but as you may know, I have a passion for boho fashion and eco friendly things, I'm going to share with you some of the beautiful things I found. If you're getting married in the near future, this post is for you or if you know someone who is getting married soon, this post is also for you; in fact this post is for everyone who loves weddings like me!
In this post I included 3 options for the bride. The great thing about these options is that you can be any of those or all at the same time!! Hope you enjoy them!

1. Confessions of an Etsy Bride
She is all about handmade and of course, a fan of Etsy. She loves one of a kind things. She also loves vintage inspired fashion. She appreciates art and crafts and loves to buy things straight from the designer and artisan's hands. An eclectic and unique bride.

2. "Say Yes to a Green Wedding"

She is an eco-friendly bride, she wants to bring her life style into her wedding, knowing that even in the most important day in her life, she is contributing with the planet. She chose organic flowers for her wedding, she looked for a gown made of sustainable fabrics, she also chose soy printed invitations made with recycled materials, etc. There are many ways to make a "Green"wedding, if you really want a wedding completely eco-friendly, you'll find different options in the market. I understand that sometimes is a little difficult because of the budget, but I suggest at least to incorporate some eco-friendly elements to your wedding. A good start is to recycle as much as you can and save energy.

Loving Cynthia Rowley's Collection!

For this season, Cynthia Rowley has created a sweet and edgy collection with urban touches and unexpected embellishment. What I also love about this collection is that the designer recycled materials (leftovers) from her past collections to use them as embellishment for dresses and sandals! Oh I love that idea! I think it's very clever as well as creative, plus you are contributing with the planet. Sweaters with bright tennis ball patterns, gold fishhook necklaces are the key elements in this Resort Collection 2009. The shapes are very flattering for all sizes and the colors are easy to mix and match.
This is just a selection of my favorite looks of Cynthia Rowley Resort Collection 2010. The whole collection is adorable!
