It's all about mixing and matching...

Mixing and matching prints, patterns, textures and bold colors is a popular trend that we see in different collections, editorials and even on the streets these days. Designers such as Diane Von Furstenberg, Anna Sui, Dries Van Noten and Ralph Lauren -to name a few- are experts in creating beautiful and cohesive looks inspired by this trend. I personally love prints, especially florals, ethnic, and eye catching prints.

Wearing different prints in one look might be a little risky sometimes, but if you spend a little more time and take a chance, you can get excellent results. I think part of the secret is to play with shades that go together creating a cohesive color palette. For example, in look #1 we see an interesting color palette; the dress has yellow, blue, gray, beige and a little bit of white. The tights are white and blue. The headband and some parts of the dress are blue as well, so the 'link' between this outfit is the blue shade. Whenever I want to mix and match prints, I always pick a color from one of the pieces I'm going to wear, maybe the top, and then I develop the rest of the outfit around that color. I use the same method to combine prints with solids. I usually choose soft and delicate prints or patterns when I mix and match, and I also prefer to add some solids here and there to create balance, but this is just my personal taste.

I think the following looks are modern, fun and unique. They're inspired by the 'Mix and Match' trend. Do you like this trend? Would you wear prints/patterns together? I'd love to know what you think.

Mezclar y combinar estampados, texturas y colores fuertes es una tendencia que se esta volviendo super popular en las pasarelas, editoriales y hasta en la calle. Diseñadores como Diane Von Furstenberg, Anna Sui, Dries Van Noten y Ralph Lauren-por nombrar unos cuantos- son expertos en el arte de crear looks bellos y con armonía siguiendo esta tendencia. A mi me encantan los estampados, especialmente los floreados, étnicos y todos aquellos que llamen la atención. A veces llevar varios estampados en un solo look puede ser riesgoso, pero si tomas un poquito mas de tiempo y te arriesgas, podrías obtener muy buenos resultados. Pienso que parte del secreto es jugar un poco con diferentes tonos, creando una paleta de colores con armonía. Por ejemplo en el look #1 vemos una interesante gama de colores; el vestido tiene amarillo, azul, gris, beige and algo de blanco. Las medias a rayas son azules y blancas, el mismo tono azul se repite en la cinta de la cabeza y en algunas partes del vestido, osea que el color que conecta todo el look es el azul. Cada vez que tengo un estampado y quiero combinarlo con otro, siempre trato de escoger un color de una de las piezas estampadas y luego voy desarrollando los demás colores en torno al color que escogí. Este metodo también lo uso cuando quiero combinar colores enteros con estampados. Casi siempre escojo estampados suaves cuando los combino entre si, tambien prefiero agregar algunos colores solidos para crear balance en el outfit, pero esto es solo mi gusto personal.

Los looks a continuación me parecen muy modernos, divertidos, coquetos y únicos. Todos están inspirados en esta tendencia de 'mezclar y combinar'. Cual es tu look favorito? Te gusta esta tendencia? Me encantaría saber tu opinión.

Boho Glamour-DVF Fall 2010

What a feminine and glamorous collection this is! I always smile and feel inspired by Diane Von Furstenberg's collections and this wasn't the exception. I love how she manages to recreate the Bohemian look in a glamorous, stylish and sophisticated way. The combination of different textures, embellishments, colorful prints and metalics is fantastic! I'm in love with the two flowy dresses (See picture 6) I wish I could wear them right now! I also adore the oversized sweater over the bohemian inspired dress (See the very last picture); I'm sure many girls would love to wear that outfit- I do. The layering on picture 4 is perfect, I love the mix of textures on the gray outfit. I'm inspired!

Que linda y femenina es esta colección! Cada vez que veo las colecciones de Diane Von Furstenberg sonrío de felicidad y esta colección no fue la excepción. Me encanta como ella recrea el look bohemio y lo hace lucir glamoroso, sofisticado y con mucho estilo. La combinación de diferentes texturas, las aplicaciones en lentejuelas y pedrería, los estampados coloridos, las telas metálicas son simplemente genial! Estoy enamorada de los vestidos de la foto 6, me encantaría poder tenerlos ahora mismo! También adoro el sweater verde sobre el vestido de estampado bohemio de la ultima foto, de seguro muchas chicas quisieran este outfit, a mi me encantaría. El sobrepuesto de texturas en la foto 4 es maravilloso, todo en gris, sencillamente inspirador!

Me gustaría saber que les pareció esta colección. Espero que estén teniendo una linda semana, y muchísimas gracias por sus comentarios que me alegran el día!

Inspiring Butterflies...

I've always loved butterflies. The proccess of a caterpillar turning into a butterfly, is simply amazing! Once it's ready, it breaks its way out of the casing of the chrysalis and spread its new wings to fly away...butterflies represent freedom to me...

Oh this is me a few weeks ago trying to reach a butterfly ;)

I remember how much I loved running after butterflies when I was a little girl...I still love doing it! The perfect picture for me is a butterfly flying over the flowers... I just adore their beautiful colors.

For the ones who love butterflies like me, here are some pictures that I find very inspiring...enjoy!

Siempre me han gustado las mariposas. El proceso de la oruga convirtiendose en mariposa es sencillamente maravilloso! Tan pronto como esta lista sale del capullo y expande sus nuevas alitas por primera vez y vuela lejos...para mi las mariposas representan la libertad...

Recuerdo cuando era niña cuanto me gustaba correr detrás de las mariposas...todavía me encanta hacerlo! La imagen perfecta para mi son las mariposas volando sobre las flores...adoro sus hermosos colores. Feminine Rebecca Taylor - Fall 2010

I was checking out the different collections during Mercedes-Benz Fashion week in NY and I already have some favorites. I like Rebecca Taylor's feminine collection, I think it's very wearable and lovely. I also love the soft and romantic color palette. Even though the shapes/silhouettes are pretty classic, I think the strenght of this collection is on the textures, embellishment and feminine details. What do you think about it? Estuve mirando las diferentes colecciones para la semana de la moda en New York y ya tengo algunas favoritas. Me gusta la colección de Rebecca Taylor, pienso que es bastante comercial y fácil de combinar ademas de linda. También me encantan los colores pasteles y románticos. Aunque las siluetas de esta colección son bastante clásicas, pienso que el lado fuerte de esta colección esta en las texturas, aplicaciones y detalles femeninos. Que les parece esta colección? Happy Valentine's Day!

Hope you enjoy this day and everyday with your beloved ones..Love is the best feeling in the world and if you already found your soulmate, you're blessed! I do believe in soulmates...I think there's always someone waiting for us somewhere in the world. A soulmate isn't necessary your boyfriend, girlfriend, etc. It could be a friend or someone you are connected with. I found my soulmate one night a couple of years ago, it was love at first sight, since then I've been the happiest girl in the world...he's the love of my life and my best friend... I'm so thankful for that!

Long Live McQueen!

I just wanted to say that I'm devastated and still can't believe that Alexander McQueen is gone. This is a huge loss in the fashion world. He was a genius and an inspiration for many people including myself. There won't be anyone like him. McQueen's ability to find inspiration even in the most unexpected things, always blew me away! like the following collection inspired by Charles Darwin's Origin of Species. He was definitely ahead of his time.

Solo quería decir que me encuentro profundamente triste por la temprana partida de Alexander McQueen. Es una tremenda pérdida para el mundo de la moda. El era un genio y una inspiración para mucha gente, incluyendome. No habrá nadie como el. Admiraba tanto la habilidad que tenia para encontrar inspiración aun en las cosas mas inesperadas, como esta colección inspirada en el origen de las especies de Charles Darwin. Definitivamente pura innovación.
