Decoration and Embellishment

For Spring 2009, many designers have enriched their pieces using mixed media such as embellishment and decoration. Even though many people think that the most challenging part of designing is to come up with an idea for a garment (meaning a silhouette), actually I think that incorporating external elements into your designs is another important task as well. I think the designer has to have a great eye and taste to do this because it's not just putting things over something without a clear direction, you have to think about many other things such as the amount of elements you incorporate in order to see a balance between the construction of the garment and these elements ( embellishment, decorative trims, etc), the way those elements affect the piece in terms of comfort and movement, if the fabric is appropriate in terms of weight and texture, etc.
I love to check the runway reports because I always find interesting elements on each piece. On my research I found some pieces that have these mixed elements and I immediately wanted to post the pics.

Megan Joy Corkrey fashion style

As many people, I'm a fan of American Idol, specially this new season. I already have my favorites (Adam, Allison, Megan, Danny and Scott) just from the point of view of someone who enjoys music and unique talent. I also like to see the contestants' new looks every week and I'm always amazed by Megan's fashion style and charisma. I love the way she looks every night, the way her stylists incorporate interesting colors and elements into her outfits. I love the crafty jewelry, the bold colors and intricate details on her dresses. I think all goes very well with her persona and musical style. I know that maybe not everybody likes that style, but you know, that's what fashion is about, it's about different styles and there are plenty of them for everyone's taste. I appreciate the innovation and the way she steps outside of the box with her outfits, I just love them!!. I like her very much because I think she's very unique. Megan has her own style and identity and that's very hard to find. Megan is already a winner; she definitely has my vote for being unique and authentic.

Dries Van Noten's Bold Colors

I Love bold colors! I can't help it..Even when sometimes I heard that it's a risky path when designing, I think the result is so worth it if you hit the notch!
The other day I was reading an interesting article about bold colors at Elle.com
The expert was talking about how to work bold colors on your everyday look. I thought that was very interesting and I wanted to share it with you. Here are the rules mentioned on the article:

Rule 1: Keep color strong. Pastels like baby blue, baby pink, no matter how hard you try, read young—like, really young. Like, "Let’s-go-to-the-mall!" young. Strong, pure brights that have an almost hothouse-flower intensity to them—azalea pink, grass green, daffodil yellow—transmit confident, grown-up allure.
Rule 2: Stick with simple lines and soft fabrics. Unless you want to look like Nancy Reagan, choose pieces made of diaphanous, undulating silks and chiffons, for a beautiful, ethereal, much-needed balance to all that color. Dries Van Noten crystallized these soft-strong principles perfectly in his spring ’09 show by taking easy Grecian-looking shifts and blouses—structured only by the odd knotted waistline or bit of draping—and smothering them in bright, diffused blocks of color that gently blurred into one another. The whole thing was very strong, very soft. Entirely grown-up.

I personally Love how Dries Van Noten works bold colors! I think he's a master doing that. His collections are never boring and I find them so chic and colorful at the same time. It's not easy to work with bold colors and he really undestands colors and not only that, he also mix and match patterns which is also very hard to do for many designers. Dries Van Noten doesn't like to play safe, that's why I love him!

Hair styles for Spring 2009

BRAIDEDLOCKS

I've always loved braids. When I was a little girl my mom used to send me to school with that hairdo, and I absolutely loved it! I think braids are such a cute look specially if you like boho-romantic hairdos and the best of all is that they're so easy to make!

This trend is comming back for Spring 2009, and of course I'll be doing it myself! I specially like the picture's hairdo because is so feminine and romantic!

Some pieces of my portfolio ( Spring- Summer 2010 collection)

I just wanted to share with you some pieces of one of my portfolios (Spring- Summer 2010 collection). This collection was inspired by the bohemian, gypsy, ethnic trend. The piecesare young, fresh, feminine. I put a lot of attention to the details. I used different trims such as hand embroidered ribbons, embroidery, leather braids, etc. Even the findings such as buttons and zippers are carefully chosen.

Here I'm showing some illustrations from this collection. Hope you like them :)
Thanks!

Fall-Winter 09 Runway Looks

These are some of my favorite looks. I love the detail on each piece, each of them has a little something that makes it special; that's what I like about an outfit, the attention to detail and creativity, even if it's just a plain black outfit, the mix of textures and shapes make the outfit interesting.
